A New Hardwood Floor
Calgarians looking to choose a new hardwood floor should decide which kind of wood they prefer first.  There are two main considerations in choosing a wood, colour and hardness.  A hardness guide can be found here.  Once you've narrowed your search down, try to find a few pictures of the species you like because different lighting and age can affect the look of a hardwood significantly.  If you can find the hardwood you want, it is time to move on to the installation.  Hardwood flooring is generally nailed to a wood subfloor.  Once the floor is in, a finish can be applied in order to prevent moisture problems and lessen the effect of temperature changes.  Finally, once finish is on, cleaning is all that is left to do.  Hardwood should be cleaned with a mop or rag to prevent scratching (with a vacuum), but other than that, hardwood is simple to clean, and, unlike carpet, it does not hide dirt.  There are hardwood cleaning products that can help a dark floor look cleaner, but water alone is usually sufficient.
