About Hardwood Calgary
What we do
Hardwood Calgary refinishes and repairs existing hardwood floors for homeowners across the city. If your floors are dull, worn through, scratched, stained or damaged, we bring them back: a recoat when that is all they need, a full sand-back when the wood itself has gone, plus staining, board repair and water damage work. Most of what we touch is the oak strip flooring that went into Calgary houses through the building boom of the 1960s and 1970s.
Why oak, and why this city
Calgary is a young housing market by Canadian standards, and that shapes the work. The floors here are not fragile antiques. They are solid red oak with most of their life still in them, and a very large share of them have spent the last thirty years under carpet, which means the wood underneath is often in far better condition than the owner expects. A big part of this job is telling people their floor is worth saving when they had already written it off.
The dry prairie winter shapes it too. Gaps open along the board seams every January as the indoor air pulls moisture out of the wood, then close again in spring. That is normal here and it is not damage, but it does mean the timing of a refinish and the way a floor is judged has to account for the season.
How we work
We start with a free look in your home. We tell you plainly whether the floors need a recoat or a full refinish, because those are very different jobs and only one of them is right for your floor. Then you get an honest number and a plan. You keep the written quote and decide on your own time.
What to expect
A written quote that lists the number of coats, the finish product, and exactly what is and is not included. A day by day plan for which rooms are out of use and when. A straight answer about dust, including the parts no extraction setup catches. And an honest read on what can be saved and what has to be replaced, including when that read costs us the bigger job.
We are a lean local operation rather than a national franchise, so you deal with the people doing the work.
